FAQ

Q: What is the date of the 2008 Master Class?
A: The date is Saturday, April 19th.

Q: What goes on at the Master Class?
A: The sessions begin at 9:00 A.M. and continue until 5:00 P.M. There's a lot of information and it is a very full day, but we have fun too. It's a very supportive situation, and many lasting relationships have been forged at our events. We hold drawings throughout the day and give away lots of career-supporting stuffstudio time, demo sessions, professional photo sessions, products, voice lessons, services of a professional bio writer, and more. And to give you an idea of the spirit of the day, instead of drawing a number out of a hat, we pick a numbered plastic ear clip out of a crystal punch bowl.

Q: Why would I want to attend the Master Class?
A: What you get in a group situation like this that you can't get in a one-on-one lesson is the opportunity to see immediate results in other singers. You will be introduced to information that you are not likely to encounter in a typical voice lesson. It is also an extremely cost-effective way to be introduced to, or brush up on, Renee's unique techniques.

This will be my 3rd year! I love it!  It is such an awesome informational experience! The evening performance is incredible opportunity! Thank you so much!Natalie Rea Carter

"This was an exceptional experience for me...I learned more specific ways to communicate to the audience." Joey Martin (Giantslayer)

Q: What will be covered at this Master Class?
A: “It’s very exciting to be celebrating our tenth year anniversary. Having spent the last nine years telling singers what to do, this year it seems appropriate to emphasize what NOT to do,” says Grant-Williams. “Judging from the early career mistakes made by some of our brightest stars, a singer doesn’t have to own a loaded gun to shoot themselves in the foot.”

Q: Who will make up the daytime panel this year?
A: At this time we have confirmed Michael Knox (Warner/Chappell Music, producer Jason Aldean) and Tara Austin (Equity Music Group, Clint Black, Carolina Rains, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Little Big Town.) The entire panel has not yet been rounded out. Keep checking this page for more information.

Q: What has been covered at past Master Classes?
A: Every year, in addition to all the new and interesting techniques Renee teaches, a high-profile industry panel focuses on one important element in the making of a singer's career. In the past, topics have included Live Performance, Recording Vocals, The Art of Getting a Record Deal, How to Win Competitions, Building a Support Team, Branding Your Signature Identity as an Artist, and Celebrate the Song.

Past panels have included Paul Worley (producer – Big & Rich, Dixie Chicks, Warner Bros. label head), Mark Bright (producer – Rascal Flatts, etc.), Harold Shedd (producer – Alabama, Toby Keith, etc.) David Malloy (producer – Reba McEntire, etc.), Rod Essig (Booking Agent – Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, etc.), Ted Greene (Manager – Diamond Rio, etc.), Larry Pareigis (Sony Records executive), David Ross (publisher – Music Row Magazine), Pat Higdon (Universal Music Publishing executive) and music business attorney Jim Harris.

Q: What about the Evening Performance Showcase?
A: At 5:00 we take a dinner break, and return at 7:00 for the Evening Performance Showcase. Every participant has an opportunity to sing one song, applying what they have learned throughout the day. A team of music industry movers and shakers will give each participant a written critique of their performance with comments on what they do well and suggestions for what could be improved. Please feel free to invite friends and family to come to the Performance Showcase.

Q: Where will the Master Class be held?
A: Studio Instrument Rentals is a full service company located at 1101 Cherry Street in Nashville, Tennessee. This is the place where stars like Dolly Parton, Derks Bently, Sara Evans, Alison Krauss, Michael McDonald, and Big & Rich go when they need to rehearse.

"I was able to see many different levels of the techniques used and how it affected overall performance." —Tommy Shane Steiner (former RCA recording artist)

Master Class Comments

"Just a short note to say thank you for your Master Vocal Workshop on Saturday. It was the best and most professional musical instruction I've ever experienced. It was not only about the vocals, it was also connecting the vocals to the music, and then connecting it all with our audience. Also, the showcase was so exciting and entertaining for me. It is a day (and night) that I will never forget."
—Jim Gasko

"I truly am overwhelmed by the whole experience. I honestly can’t think straight because I’m writing and trying to pay attention to the end of the seminar!! Overall I would not trade this for anything!"
Fionna Siobann Nelson

My ten year old granddaughter and I attended your master vocal class and it is truly amazing how your techniques changed the way people sang. We were so fortunate to spend time with Renee at the conference, take a photo with Bo Bice and also take two voice lessons with Christy Sutherland. Misty Rae encouraged my granddaughter moments before she sung on stage. We had a fabulous time and we are planning on returning every year. What a great start for a ten year old or anybody else! Thank you all so much for your kindness.

"This has been a life-changing experience for me. I will be back for sure and recommend you to everyone I know! Thank you so very much!"
—Jamie Young

I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed the Master Class 2006.  I honestly felt as though I gave you a personal list of topics that I had questions about and you based the class around them.  Everything that I wanted from my first trip to Nashville, I got by sitting in that chair and listening to you speak.  It's amazing how many topics you are able to cover and your advice, along with the panel discussion,  has given me motivation.  I was completely moved.  I came to your class hoping to gain at least one thing... and that was to be inspired.  Well I am now overwhelmed with inspiration.  You've given me a whole new view on the realty of a dream.  Thank you so much.  Now I can move forward.  Take care and I hope to work with you soon!
—Erin McKinney

"Your class was very much worth the
flight from Oregon.
I’ll see you next year. Thank you so much."

"It was a sincere pleasure being apart of the 8th Annual Master Class experience. I say “experience” because it was more than just a class. The information taught coupled with the networking channels provided proved to be outstanding and unlike anything else I’ve seen. Renee has a presence about her that commands attention with everyone in the room listening intently. Her wealth of knowledge sprinkled with humor and tons of sincerity went way beyond what was expected from a mundane, typical voice seminar. If I was told to describe my experience in one sentence I would say it like this. Amazing Job Renee."
—Cory Boatright
